Animate

If you're looking for popular anime and game merchandise then this might be something for you. Animate is a chain of 90 stores across Japan, which specializes in anime, comics and games. The main store Animate Akihabara offers many fascinating products such as audio/visual, character goods, magazines, etc.

Cospa Gee Store

The costume shop Cospa Gee Store offers all sorts of getups for geek fashions known as kos-pu-re (costume play). Cool manga costumes featuring characters from Dragon Ball, NARUTO, Hokuto's Fist, as well as striking designer shirts featuring characters from Gundam, Trigun and the like are to be found in this Akihabara cosplay shop.

Crayon House

A shop for the whole family with books, toys and design, whose focus is health and ecology. They have a huge collection of children's picture books and literature from around the world. With 50,000 books, of which 10,000 are imported, Crayon House is widely regarded as the best collection of its kind in Japan. Children are welcome to roam around and read. Do not miss the restaurant in the basement that serves organic vegetarian food.

Hakuhinkan Toy Park

With its nine floors Hakuhinkan is one of Tokyo's largest toy shops, with an enormous selection of video games, jigsaw puzzles, Japanese dolls and teddy bears. The Hakuhinkan Toy Park in Ginza is almost a cross between a toy store, museum of toys and an amusement park. Fun for all ages, and a great opportunity to buy presents and souvenirs!

Kiddy Land

Toys in Japan are certainly not just for children. This is one of Tokyo's most famous and popular toy stores, located on Omotesando, near the entrance to Cat Street. Kiddy Land offers six floors filled with all kinds of toys from electronic games to stuffed animals. Many major toy brands, including Hello Kitty, Barbie and Disney are present.

Super Potato

If you are in Tokyo shopping for retro games, then you need to get yourself to the shop called Super Potato in Akihabara. A graveyard of old video games, forgotten consoles, cartridges and goofy handheld portables discarded from the '80s. Famicom, Sega Saturn, Dreamcast… This shop carries just about any retro type console or game that you can think of, and things that can't be found anywhere else.

Volks Doll Store

Customize your dream doll with miniature body parts down to the legs and eyeballs at this must-see store in the historic Radio Building. Staff presents buyers of top-of-the-line figures with their purchases in a wedding-style gazebo. Geek heaven.
