You may be able to complete all of your souvenir shopping in one trip to this tasteful four-floor shop, which carries handmade traditional crafts, including lacquer ware, glassware, pottery, bamboo, fabrics, dolls and folk art from all over Japan. Bingoya Folk Crafts Shop is located near the Wakamatsu Kawada Station (Wakamatsu-cho Exit) on Oedo subway line.

Hayashi Kimono

Hayashi Kimono in Ginza, Tokyo's largest kimono boutique for foreigners, offers traditional Japanese wear, both new and antique. The staff speak English and will be able to assist you. In addition to kimono, Hayashi also offers happi coats and yukata, as well as traditional-design T-shirts.

Japan Traditional Craft Center

This store is worth a trip even if you can't afford to buy anything. This two-story center is a great introduction to both traditional and contemporary Japanese design. Crafts for sale include everything from pottery, lacquer ware and carving knives for your everyday needs to more esoteric bows and arrows, washi (paper products), calligraphy brushes, furniture, and sometimes even stone lanterns or Buddhist family altars.

Oriental Bazaar

A kitschy Tokyo institution for tourists and expats alike, with four floors of shopping stocking typical Japanese souvenirs, such as foreigner-sized kimonos, tableware, lamps, dolls, furniture and samurai related goods. The Oriental Bazaar is housed in an instantly recognizable building with a faux-Chinese temple roof.
